Good roads provide access to the port and to the rest of Holland, while direct and indirect buses run from the town of Ijmuiden to Amsterdam.
Trains run to Haarlem from nearby Driehuis station, while taxis can be pre-booked.
Travel by Bus and Shuttles
Buses run from the town of Ijmuiden to Haarlem, from where additional bus and train services run to Amsterdam and other destinations farther afield. In addition, DFDS Seaways is in collaboration with a local coach firm to provide direct coach transfers from Ijmuiden port to the main bus station in central Amsterdam. Coaches are timed to coincide with ferry arrivals and departures.
Car Hire and Road Travel
Getting to Ijmuiden port from Amsterdam or elsewhere in Holland is straightforward, with the main north-south A9 providing indirect access. From Amsterdam, take the N200 west and exit onto the A22. Take the Ijmuiden exit (west) before reaching the North Sea Canal. The port is just a few minutes to the northwest of the town centre.
If you are a foot passenger, cars can be pre-booked from a number of car hire companies in Ijmuiden. Pre-booking hire cars online is, however, recommended as the prices are traditionally lower online and you also stand a better chance of getting the right car for your needs.
Travel by Train
The nearest train station to Ijmuiden port is Driehuis station. Trains from here run to nearby Haarlem and on to Amsterdam and other Dutch destinations. Driehuis station is about a 30-minute walk from the ferry terminal, or you could take a taxi. Buses also run from the ferry terminal to Haarlem train station.
Car Parking
Those wishing to leave their car at Ijmuiden port will find short-term and long-term parking spaces in the terminal car park. There are also designated parking spaces for those with special needs.
Travel by Taxis
